Inclusion Engineering in Medium Mn Steels: Effect of Hot-Rolling Process on the Deformation Behaviors of Oxide and Sulfide Inclusions

Abstract Medium Mn steel (MMS) is a new category of the third-generation advanced high strength (3rd AHSS) which developed in recent 1-2 decades due to unique trade-off and ductility. Thus, this grade has wide application potential different fields industry. The current work provides fundamental study effect hot-rolling on inclusion deformation MMS including varied 7 9 mass pct Mn. Specifically, behavior types inclusions ( i.e. , Mn(S,Se), liquid oxide (MnSiO 3 ), MnAl 2 O 4 complex oxy-sulfide) was investigated. results show that both MnSiO Mn(S,Se) are soft able be deformed during process but does not. aspect ratio increases significantly from as-cast conditions. When maximum size similar, deforms more than does. This joint influence physical parameters Young’s modulus, coefficient thermal expansion (α), etc. However, when one type e.g., ) much larger another Mn(S,Se)), plays dominant role other factors.
